> FAQs and Help > Vouchers & bursaries
This page answers questions about vouchers and
bursaries.
A voucher is a way of paying for your LNAT if you
don't have access to an acceptable credit card or debit card. You send us your payment and we send you a one-off
code, known as a voucher, that can be used to book a test online.
A bursary is a different matter. With a
bursary, we pay for your LNAT and you don't
have to pay us back.
On this page we answer the following FAQs ...
How does the voucher system work?
When should I apply for a voucher?
How do I apply for a voucher?
How much does a voucher cost?
How do I use the voucher when I get it?
Do you ever reduce or waive the test fee?
Who exactly is eligible for a bursary?

What do I do when I get the bursary email?

How does the voucher system work?
The LNAT registration system accepts major credit cards and
Visa debit cards as payment
for test bookings. It
does not accept Switch/Maestro debit cards. Our vouchers are designed
for those who have
no access to an acceptable payment card, or who live in a
country with credit card verification problems. The LNAT registration system will recognise the voucher
number as a form of payment in place of a credit or debit card number. The
voucher can be used just once. If you lose it or waste it you will
have to buy another one. More

When should I apply for a voucher?
You must apply to LNAT Consortium Ltd for your voucher before you
book an LNAT test slot. Because of the time it takes payments to
clear through the banking system, it can take us up to ten working
days
to process a voucher application. You must allow for this extra
time in planning your LNAT bookings. Close to the application deadlines
set by universities, the LNAT test centres can become very busy and
it can be hard to find a slot. You should therefore book your test
sitting as far before the deadline as possible. If you are going
to use a voucher, you will have to add a further two weeks on top.
This is your responsibility, not ours. More

How do I apply for a voucher? You apply by sending us a paper form that
can be printed out on this website, and you attach a cheque to the
form. Alternatively, you email us the form, and then promptly make
an internet bank transfer. A voucher number will then be sent back to you by email. It will take us up to
ten working days to process a cheque application after we receive it,
and up to five working days to process an application paid by internet
banking.
The email itself constitutes the voucher.
You will not receive a paper copy. It is your responsibility to
ensure that your email is working and that our messages are not
diverted into your junk-mail folder. The voucher
application form is here

How much does a voucher cost?
There are vouchers for GBP40 that can be used to book an LNAT
sitting at an EU test centre. There are also vouchers for GBP60
that can be used to book an LNAT sitting at a non-EU test centre.
Paying by voucher does not change the cost of the LNAT. It is only
a different way of paying. More on the LNAT test fee

How do I use the voucher when I get it?
As soon as you receive the voucher email, you can use it to
make an LNAT test booking. Receipt of a voucher is not equivalent
to registering for the LNAT or booking a test. You must still register online. You can complete step one of the registration process (create
a profile) before you get your voucher. But you will complete step
two (book a test slot) only after you
receive the voucher. The voucher is your payment method. You enter
it at the stage at which other people enter their credit card
or debit card number. Please note that the same terms and conditions
regarding cancellation and rebooking of test slots apply to voucher
bookings as to all other bookings. If you do not meet these conditions,
you will have to pay again to rebook. More on online registration
and payment

Do you ever reduce or waive the test fee?
Yes. We have a bursary system under which we waive the test fee altogether
for those
in receipt of certain state educational benefits in their country of
residence. This applies to UK and EU applicants only. It also applies
at UK and EU test centres only. You will need
to apply for a bursary before you
book an LNAT sitting. We will pay bursaries by electronic voucher
(see above).

Who exactly is eligible for a bursary?
You will be eligible for a bursary if you are a UK applicant
and
you are currently receiving the top rate of Educational Maintenance
Allowance or Adult Learning Grant (currently GBP30 per week). You will also be eligible if you are a UK
applicant and someone in your family (with whom you live) is currently receiving Income
Support or income-based Jobseekers' Allowance or or Employment and Support Allowance, where the benefit includes an element to meet your needs. You will also be eligible for a bursary
if you are an EU applicant from outside the UK and you receive an
equivalent state benefit in your country. The bursary application form will
help you to decide whether your state benefit is equivalent. Applicants from outside the EU are not eligible
for bursaries under any circumstances. Bursaries also cannot be used to take the LNAT at
test centres outside the EU, where the test fee is higher.

When do I apply for a bursary?
You must apply for your bursary before you
book an LNAT test slot. Because of the need to check your documentation,
it can take us up to ten days to process a voucher application.
You must allow for this extra time in planning your LNAT bookings.
Close to the application deadlines set by universities, the LNAT
test centres can become very busy and it can be hard to find a slot.

as possible. If you are going to apply for a bursary, you will have
to add a further two weeks on top. This is your responsibility,

How do I apply for a bursary?
You apply by sending us a paper form that
can be filled in and printed out from this website. You attach evidence
of your entitlement to the form. The form tells you what to attach. Please
follow the instructions carefully. NB Bank statements showing incoming
benefit payments do not suffice. If you are successful in your application, your bursary will be sent to you in the form of an email voucher.
You will not receive a paper copy. It is your responsibility to
ensure that your email is working and that our messages are not
diverted into your junk-mail folder. The bursary
application form is here

What do I do when I get the bursary email?
Receipt of a bursary is not equivalent
to registering for the LNAT or booking a test. You must still register online. You can complete step one of the registration process (create
a profile) before you get your bursary. But you will complete step
two (book a test slot) only after you
receive the bursary. You enter the voucher number we email
to you at the stage at which other people enter their
credit card or debit card number. Please note that the same terms
and conditions regarding cancellation and rebooking of test slots
apply to bursary bookings as to all other bookings. If you
do not meet these conditions, we will not give you another bursary
to cover the wasted cost. You will have to rebook at your own expense. More on online registration
and payment
